Notes

Ravelympics project! Yay, my first Ravelympics.

I’m be using fingering weight, not worsted, so I’ll have to make some changes. Nothing new for me! For example, I’m working over 132 stitches.

I’m also planning to continue the colorwork all the way up into the decreases; I already charted it out and swatched it to make sure my chart works.

02/12/10, 9 p.m.: Went out with my husband tonight and am just getting to cast on. Bah, doesn’t he know the Ravelympics are starting?! Haha, just kidding … kind of. ;) Oh well, I only lost an hour of knitting time.

02/13/10, 2:30 a.m.: Finished for the night. I made it through 10 rows total (5 of ribbing, 2 solid-color rows and 3 2-color rows, not necessarily in that order.) I cast on and knit the ribbing with size 1 needles to make sure it pulled in enough to keep the hat snugly on my head. Then I switched to the 3s to start the main portion of the hat.
If I keep going at this pace, I should be able to finish with a whole day or so to spare!

02/14/10, 2:45 a.m.: Wow. This project is going much more quickly than I had expected. Apparently, I somehow developed fair isle skill without even knowing it! Anyway, I’m only 10 rows away from starting the decreases now. I could conceivably finish this hat later today, with plenty of time left for the Ravelympics. I’ll be making good use of that time to knock off some other items from my queue, specifically as many of the top 4 as I can (not necessarily in order).

02/15/10: Finished very early this morning! (Very early. Insanely early. I-should-have-been-in-bed-hours-ago early … but I just couldn’t sleep when I was so close to finishing!)
It’s a little too long for me, which I expected, because I wanted it to cover my ears fully but the only way to accomplish that is to let it bunch up at the back of my neck and at the corners of my glasses. Maybe I’ll felt it slightly. I haven’t decided. Or I can give it to someone with a bigger head, but I doubt I’ll go that route, because this is insanely comfortable and I love it, hehe. Either way, it’s done and I like it, even if it is a little long. (I’m used to that; all store-bought hats are a little long. And like I said, I’d rather have it a little long than to have it ride up and expose my ears.)
Sorry about the terrible picture quality; my webcam is the best camera I have available right now. (Also, the hat desperately needs to be blocked, which I’ll do … soon. Yeah. As soon as I convince myself to take it off of my head. Umm … may be a while.)
