Trying my hand at a cotton Olga in several scallopped colors for my eldest girl.
-Update 10/16-
finally got up to separating the sleeves. Didn’t work on it that much lately so it got a bit slow. Knowing me, after parting for the sleeves I should be going faster.
Daughter requested for this to be made into a dress instead of a tunique so I added some length. Not my favorite colours (I hate purple… :’) ) but she picked them herself so it’s all good I guess :)
DONE! Yay!! ♡
Since it’s 2 at night at the moment, more details and pics tomorrow ;) pleased with the result, not so much pleased with the colours I’d like one in grey, mint, pink and very light grey I guess, but hey… the girl likes it so that’s really all that matters.
NOTES
My girl doesn’t like most yarns, she says it’s itchy. So I don’t get to knit for her that often ;) When she requested a dress in this particular cotton I had to start doing some math… The pattern calls for a 4 ply yarn, mine was sports / 5 ply. I eventually casted on a number of stitches right between the 18-24 months old and 2-3 yo size. Turned out perfect for my average 5 year old. A normaal size 4-5. I used this website to convert my gauge.
Other mods…
- I’m not a big fan of garter-edges so I opted for some ribbing instead.
-
Added some length so it’s really a proper dress instead of a tunic.
-
Added the scalloped pattern to work in several colours. I did this mainly to stashbust my leftover yarns from the blanket I made earlier on.
-
Made the sleeves a little longer. When calculated I should make them 11,5 cm’s. I decided on 14 cm’s, turned out to be a good choice. They are however like the sleeves in the sleeved version in the pattern so I wouldn’t really call it a mod.
On the pattern
very well written, clear pattern with many size options. I will make this again, I have some lovely alpaca silk 4 ply yarn waiting for this project for my youngest girl. I’m not sure though if I’d make it another dress/tunic or just shirt-sized. I do really like the look of the sleeved version!
Last words
I LOOOOVE I-CORD BIND-OFF!!! <3 :D hahaha
it looks so fancy, I’m impressed every single time I use it.
