If using Oxford and the gauge from Voe of 7 st./in stranded, dimensions would be:
40” body, 280 st.
Sleeves at underarm 98 (35%).
Total body 280 + 98 + 98 - 4x underarm stitches of 8% body = 22 = 88 = 388 (476-88).
Yoke can be small Peerie, then increases, then Peacock, then increases, small peerie then final increases to 388 st.
After finishing the sweater I found the neckline too low and wide so I ripped it out and knit it higher after reducing stitches to 136. For the ribbing I made 1x1 and reduced that to 132.
Used motifs from Selbu Mittens book for body peeries.
Consider using top yoke from Twigs as first peerie.
Row count is about 9 rows/in whether on 3s or 4s (Oxford).
Swatching Twigs on Oxford 1.0 and Spincycle on 3s yields 7.5 st./in.
Here the body would be 300, yoke about 414 st before dividing. 300 + ( .7 (sleeves x/2) - .32 (4x underarms)) = 300 x 1.38 = 414.
With 5% underarm stitches held, 450 stitch yoke.
Row gauge of 9 for 8” yoke = 72 rows.
Generic Oxford gauge is 25 st/4 in on 3s.
Gauge of Acorn swatch is 7.5/in on 3s.
First Peacock sweater yoke is 6.5” middle front to sleee separation, close to 9” on the back neck. Both could be half an inch shorter, or underarm stitches fewer.
Twig 1 motif -- 36 st.
large peacock -- 49 or 50 (depends on spacing).
increases -- cast on 130, increase peerie,
130 to ? to 216 (6 repeats of 36) to 324 to 343 (7 repeats) … to 400 or 416 (? 25 or 26 repeats of 16)
Twig 2 motif -- 16 st.
Assume 260’st body with light textured two color bands. Yoke divided 70/110/70/110. Add 20 underarm stitches.
After wearing a few months, the stitch gauge was 26/4”.
After wearing two years, i feel the neck is too large, looks too casual for work wear. Neck is 132 st and I’m ripping it out to reduce it closer to 100. Added a motif from a Selbu knitting book and steamed the unraveled yarn to re-use, then used more to finish off and washed in really hot water to re-set it.
