Doubled up on the pattern (using a larger version with 17 CO st for the back) and crocheted them together to make a pretty solid trivet/potholder. I added a fair amount of crocheting: the center rings and then a white outer ring, plus the crocheting the two bits together.

All in all it took much longer than I had expected, which is fine, but most importantly, it came out really nicely and just in time for summer BBQs!
