i recently went through my closets and dragged out a lot of clothes whose time had come. while doing so, i was confronted by the two typical problems i run into with this: (1) would i really actually take these clothes to the donation drop-off, or would they sit around in a box for months?, and (2) what about those that are beyond wearing but that are so dorkily imbued with memories that i could never simply part with them?
i took scissors to them. i cut them all up into roughly 1” strips (angling up vortically, whenever possible), joined them up quick-and-dirty like on my sewing machine (a 2-second seam, since i hate sewing), and commenced crocheting a rug. it’s monstruous, structural, and really rewarding.
