First hat
Cast on July 1, 2022 while at my annual Chelan gaycation.
I used M1R and M1L increases instead of the lifted increases in the pattern. I found them too fiddly and they didn’t look great.
My gauge is 5 sts/inch using US 6s. Used 5s for the ribbing.
Finished July 8, 2022. Knitted the folded-over version. I knit a row of stockinette at 7.5 inches from the cast-on to help the brim fold, but I’m still not sure I like how it folds. I think I should knit stockinette until the turning row in the future.
Used 62.5 g of the yarn for the first hat. This leaves 45 g of the 3-ply and 7.1 g of the chain-ply.
Edit (July 23): I think I’m going to rip back and redo the ribbing section. I’d like to get a set of Forth hats from this yarn, one with a folded-up brim and one without. Might make more sense to knit the shorter hat first.
Aug 23: Ripped back to stockinette and am proceeding with the non-folded-up version. Used 56.3 g; 101.5 yards.
Second hat
I forgot to update my notes, but I finished a second hat from the same yarn Sept 6. It also ended up being a hat with a regular brim; I didn’t have quite enough yardage for the folded up version. Used 48.8 g; 88 yards.
My 8-and-10-year-old nephew and niece tried on the hats and they were a bit too big for them. So, I should go down a size to make hats that would fit kids’ heads better.
Sept 2023: Gave both away to a “winter warmth” charity drive.
