This hat seems to be all the rage right now on Instagram and I can’t think of a project that sounds more fun than lots of stockinette in the round.

This skein of sock yarn is the one skein I have in my stash not already planned for a project. I love the idea of it becoming a hat.

Cast on March 27 and finished May 15, 2021. I spent a fair amount of time in there on another WIP. Based on my gauge, I knit the adult large with a goal of a hat 20 inches around, but it feels a tiny bit loose on my head.

I’m not that into the look of the hat with the brim folded up, but I do like a slouchy hat, especially given the loose feel of this one, so I knit a little shorter than pattern - until I had 14 inches of straight stockinette (after the increase section from the cast one). Bonus that there’s enough leftover yarn to add a square to my Barn Raising Quilt!

I little weird to be doing the brim decreases with a really long hat hanging from my needles. And weird to try to sewing the ends into the back of the work that you can’t access. I totally sewed into the back of the other side of the hat when sewing the ends in and had to pull it out, so I’m not sure how buried they really area.

I could totally see myself knitting more of these.
