US 10 needles and a little over 4 skeins of Schachenmayr Pompon yarn. Garter gauge: 14 to 4 inches.

The yarn I used was very nubby and did not work well in the knit mesh border, so I bound off at roughly 190 stitches and worked a simple double crochet mesh with a very big crochet hook for 4 inches. Then I picked up stitches and worked garter stitch for another 1.5 inches and bound off again.

I also added a few short rows, worked from the inside out, at 3 different depths. The idea was to add a gentle curve for the shoulder. I did this with 82 stitches on the needle, working a short row on each side of a center 22. Again around 125 stitches--on each side of a center 25, and finally at 175 stitches--on each side of a center 45.

I want to do this shawl again, with a yarn that will work with the knit mesh. This nubby yarn was not a good fit for the delicate openwork in the pattern, but I still like how it worked out.
