US 4 needles worked with 1.5 skeins of JL Salvia in turquoise and 1.5 skeins of JL Salvia in a sandy 908 blend.

I knit until I had 357 stitches on the needles, added 3 repeats of a 6-row openwork pattern from Barbara Walker called Slip-Stitch Mesh, and bound off with a crochet hook.

I crocheted 2 stitches at a time with a single crochet, removing them from the needle, and working 3 chains between sc stitches. This method of binding off came from Marianne Kinzel’s lace knitting books.

I blended the two variegated yarns this way:
A 2 rows, B 2 rows, A 2 rows, B 2 rows, A 2 rows
then
B 3 rows, A 2 rows, B 1 row, A 2 rows, B 3 rows

I crocheted the flower for the shawl pin too.
