Picked up the perfect yarn to make Grandma a shawl for her 90th birthday! We’re going up to Estes Park for the weekend & also a reunion so I needed something I could make FAST. This yarn is nice & thick so it should only take a few hours to finish this for her.
7/29 - Cast on 200 stitches for the scarf & 5 stitches on each end for the fringe, for a total of 210 stitches. I knit about half way through the first ball of yarn so I think I will be able to do this in time (today is Tuesday, party is this weekend).
7/31 - Knit through most of the first ball! Which in itself is a feat since I’ve have zero time at home, with work & (hanging out with grandma, grandpa, uncle eric & mom was SO nice). I checked our schedule for the weekend & it looks like the official birthday party isn’t until Sunday afternoon so I should be fine on time, I’ll have Saturday to finish & at the rate I’m going I’m anticipating about two more hours of knitting. It’s so soft & pretty!!! I love this pattern & the yarn is a great match.
8/2 - Knit all but two rows while laying in the bed at the cabin staring out the window at Rocky Mountain National Park listening to Dev play the banjo & Piers play the guitar. Seriously awesome.
8/3 - Finished the last row & bound off. I unraveled the fringe stitches & instead of leaving loops I cut each one & tied it off in a square knot. It looked better that way since I wasn’t adding beads. Grandma gave a speech about how she’s always appreciated handmade gifts or special things like a song, or poem performed for her instead of bought items RIGHT before I gave it to her (SCORE!). She seemed to like it & it looked very nice on her.
