“Meilenweit Cotton 100 Festa Yarn” from Lana Grossa is a plied fingering yarn designed for socks. It is 45% cotton, 42% wool and 13% nylon and is machine washable, dry flat.
A plain 64-stitch sock for knitting with my eyes closed.
notes: gusset -27 ktbl. toe decreases-when 48 st, dec every row.
How many socks will I knit before I have a pair? The first finished sock was wide/loose in the toe, and a bit long, so on the second sock I started the toe decreases sooner. That sock fits nicely width-wise, but feels a tad too short. So now I will rip back the toe of the first sock and start the decreases a little bit sooner, but not as soon as the second sock. And then I will rip back the second sock and make it match the first (reknit) sock. Or something. For Very Plain Socks, these are taking a lot of knitting, and I don’t understand why…
6oct10 revisited project. the sock was actually too wide in the entire foot; it wasn’t a toe issue. ripped back 2nd sock to gussett. did three more decrease rows = 58 st remaining.
16oct10 reknit both socks from gusset, made star toes (one with k2t, one with ssk). wove in ends, en route to Rhinebeck.
They look quite nice, and are VERY matchy…I think these will be a surprise for someone who deserves a treat :)
These socks were chosen by Sue F :)
UPDATE: March 2015 - Sue says the socks are still going strong! No holes :)
