All squares gathered up as of this weekend! Time to block and join!
1/12/2017
Over the first two weeks of January:
Bordered all squares with sc in red
Used alternating 2-stitch blocks of HDC to join the squares as strips, then the strips into blanket. With this method, you can subtly change the spacing of the blocks as needed in order to tighten up stretchy blocks put next to firm ones, or make stitch count differences match better. Think about handsewing a set-in sleeve-- in some places you bunch up the fabric or allow it to stretch so that it all is distributed neatly in the armhole. So it goes with alternating blocks. Using the firm/smaller stitch count square as your base, you can dec1 with a HDC carefully every few blocks in the stretchy fabric (hdc, dec1, for a block of two stitches). Don’t do a run of blocks that decrease, it will bunch it up too much. With a gentle block and a wash/dry in the knit cycle, the tensions will balance out beautifully!
