Notes

My daughter is dressing up as Chica from FNaf (Five Nights at Freddy’s) this Halloween and asked me to make her a crochet Carl the Cupcake, Chica’s companion.

I used the following free pattern by Amigurumi Today for the basic cupcake, without the bunny ears and chocolate drizzle, and added eyes, teeth and a candle.

https://amigurumi.today/free-amigurumi-bunny-cupcake-croc...

I made this with acrylic DK and a 2.75mm hook. 12mm safety eyes.

Size:
Cupcake: 8.5cm
Candle: 4.5cm (without the flame)

Modifications of the original cupcake pattern:

  • I made round 2 of the icing in the back loops only in order to use those 6 free loops to make the candle later on.

  • I made one extra round of sc for the icing part

Added bits to make Carl:

Eyes (make 2)

Start with white yarn:
R1: 6sc in MR
R2: 6inc
R3: (1sc, 1inc) x6
Change to black (I used lace yarn held double as DK seemed too thick for this)
R4: (2sc, 1inc) x6 - ch1, turn your work and make: 1sc, 2hdc, hdc-inc, 2hdc, sc, sl-st. Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing the eye to the cupcake icing.

Before sewing, insert the safety eye through the centre of the MR and secure it with the washer. I cut part of the back of the safety eye as it was sticking out too much, and melted the back to make it more secure. Make the second eye.
The eyes will be sewn 2 rounds above the frilling. Leave 2-3 sc between the eyes.

Teeth (make 2)

Start with white yarn:
Ch6. Starting on the 2nd ch from the hook:
R1: 4sc, 1inc, 4sc.
R2: 1inc, 9sc.
R3-R5: 11sc. FO, cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing. Make the second tooth.
Flatten the opening of the tooth and sew both sides together. Position the teeth under the frilling, centered to the eyes, with 1sc between them. Sew the teeth to the cupcake, to the round where we made the colour change from the icing to the cake part.

Candle
I used off-white:
Attach the yarn to one of the front loops left from R1 of the icing. Make 1sc in each loop (6).
Make 1sc in each stitch for 9 more rounds (make more or less rounds if you want your candle to be longer or shorter). Stuff the candle. Cut the yarn and close the top.

Decorate the candle: attach a long piece of yellow yarn to the base of the candle and wind it around the candle about 3 times, securing it at the top. Hide the yarn ends inside the piece.

Flame: take 3 small pieces of yarn: yellow, red and orange. Hold them together, fold them in half and brush them (I used a slick brush). Sew the flame to the top of the candle, trimming it as you wish.

Carl the Cupcake is ready!
