Update: forgot all about updating this thing! I ended up just following the premie pattern and not doing the hood thing. Used Caron Simply Soft in black, white and Autumn Maize for the borders (using the same pattern). I forgot to take pictures of the finished results, buy my BFF sent me a couple he took of her on Superbowl Sunday. Unfortunately I can’t find the one where she was happily sleeping in it, but trust me, they all loved it lol.
