Using mill ends from a 1-lb bag bought a few years ago at Walmart.
Going to try using a smaller needle so the sock is denser. Dad put a hole in the first pair so hopefully doing this and adding re-enforcing yarn in the toe area will help.
This pair of socks will be my January KAL project for Surmount The Stash group.
DPNs - 2.75mm
Gauge - 8 stitches per inch, 12 rows per inch.
1/7/2013 - First sock - Cast on 68 stitches, k2p2 for
2 1/4”.
- knit for 3/4”.
1/9/2013 - another inch knit.
1/11/2013 - knit to 6” discovered I’d slipped one stitch off end of needle around the 4.5” mark. I didn’t realize because it was at the point where I had my piece of yarn for marking beginning of the row. I’d thought the stitch looked funny there but didn’t think too much of it. Discovered the stitch when I was replacing the new marker.
Thought about ripping back but with the bum shoulder didn’t want to so I took a piece of matching thread and wove it in from the back side and caught the slipped stitch up into the weaving, it should hold and you can’t really see the difference but you can feel the extra strand of yarn in there. Took pictures but you can’t really see the missed stitch so that’s good.
1/12/2013 - Knit to 7 3/4” now to start on heel flap.
1/16/2013 - Finished heel flap.
1/20/2013 - Done the gusset and working down the foot of the sock towards the toe shaping. Toe shaping started at 8”.
1/26/2013 - Finished first sock, casting on for second.
When I cast on for the socks I used 68 stitches but went down 2 needle sizes. I forgot to add stitches so instead of being a large sock (13) it’s now a medium (11).
1/27/2013 - Finished ribbing second sock plus 1 1/2” into body.
1/30/2013 - Done body of sock starting in on heel.
2/10/2013 - Started decrease on gusset today.
2/19/2013 - Done 7.5” on the foot only 1” left before starting the toe decreases.
2/25/2013 - Done.
