Final hat count: 26
This project is for the Period of Purple Crying awareness and education program on infant abuse and shaken baby syndrome. Find out more at http://www.clickforbabies.org

These were donated for Detroit.

UPDATE May 1:

I got started and forgot to make a project page! That hasn’t happened in a very long time. LOL

UPDATE Sept 22:

I was running out of this purple and decided to use a wide stripe of “Seedling” green and finish off with the last bit of purple. Because I switched from continuous rounds to joined rounds, I had a bit of a diagonal seam. So I chain stitched two stripes alongside and it made a neat angled double stripe. So here’s a photo of that hat.

UPDATE October 20:

I seem to have lost count in those final few hats and was half-way through another hat before I realized it, so I’ll go ahead and finish it. The final hat count is 26.

UPDATE October 29:

This is my improvised flower pattern for the final hat. It’s a double layer crocheted flower, with picots on the lower petal tips.

Flower

Yarn: Red Heart Baby TLC Solids, Lilac.

Hook: 5.5 mm.

Rnd 1: Magic ring, ch 1, work 10 sc into ring, slip st to join.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, 1 hdc, 2 dc, 1 hdc, ch1, then sl st into same space as join, skip 1 sc. Repeat around, sl st to join. Total 6 small petals.

Rnd 3: Working behind the petals: ch 5, skip petal, sl st into next unworked sc working into it from the back of the flower. Repeat around, slip st around first ch-5 to join.

Rnd 4: ch 1, 2 dc, picot, 2 dc, ch 1, slip st around next ch 5. Repeat around for a total of 6 large petals with picot tips. Finish off.

Sew to hat, also tacking along a couple edges or tips to help flower lay flat.
