Notes

To coordinate with my RH Boutique Sashay Sequin ruffle scarf in Fiji colorway (teal green).

Used Clover Takumi Combo bamboo needles, size 16” cord. And 5” bamboo dpns.

Private notes below with stitch count info from pattern.

Cast-on with 5.5 mm, 16” circulars.

Slipped last stitch to left needle, k2tog to join in the round.

Switched to 3.75 mm needle for 1 X 1 ribbing.

First round after ribbing was an increase round.

Switched to 4.0 mm needles for body of beret.

Used right slanting swirl shaped crown; decreased on every round.

Switched to 4.0 mm dpns when needed. (5 inch dpns from Wish app: excellent price for a complete set.)

I both dropped a stitch (fixed it) and generally lost my stitch count between markers near the end there because I was watching television. But it all seems to have worked out OK. I gathered last 6 sts to finish off.

Machine washed and spun. Allowed to dry on round foil-covered cake cardboard, to achieve proper tam shape.

Lightly ran a few rows of dark teal “Rainbow” brand elastic thread through the acrylic ribbing to help the (acrylic yarn) brim get and keep a snug fit.

And I purchased another skein of this color to make some matching fingerless mitts.

2016-12-04 Additional elastic thread

It seems I didn’t put the elastic thread through enough of the ribbing, not close enough to the stockinette. The brim won’t stay in place correctly on my head. I like to wear my brim tucked inside and my hat slouched to the side.

So I’m adding another few rounds of elastic thread to get all the way from the ribbing to the stockinette.
