Based on the Festive Christmas Tree Hat being sold this season by FredFlare.com
Used Make Your Point Hat for basic shape, but did HDC for 13 rounds, then DC for the rest. Also, started out with 5 DC in the round and made sort of a tube for a couple rounds to have a point to attach the star to, before increasing to 10 sts. Followed pattern increases through round 19 (100 sts), then decreased a total of 22 sts in the next 3 rounds, somewhat evenly. There were 9 DC rounds in all for the tree portion.
Crocheted through back loops on each round to leave front loop for attaching 11 rounds total of “branches”. Branches were made every other round with size “I” hook.
“Branches” were over 5 spaces (loops), sl st into first space,
1st sp--ch 3, dc
2nd sp--2 dc
3rd sp--1 trc, ch 1, 1 trc
4th sp--2 dc
5th sp--1 dc, ch 3, sl st into base of space.
If you skip 1 space before next 5 space branch, branches are more crowded and curly, like in the bottom 2/3rds of this hat. If you skip 2 spaces, they are flatter, like the ones toward the top of the hat.
Used brown Caron Simply Soft and size “G” hook and just DC three rounds for “trunk”.
Used Simple Star Ornament, crocheted with Caron Simply Soft and size “C” hook for tight gauge. Made 2 and sewed them together, leaving the bottom open to go over the point of the tree.
I’m not a very good crocheter, this was pretty rough for me to make, I hope she likes it and wears it for many Christmases to come
