Notes

My dear cousin Ken is very sick. I feel the need to do something, but I’d be in the way and be a hindrance if I drove there myself. My other dear cousin Sandy (his wife) has things in hand.

So instead I’m filling my need by making this afghan for him. The colors are from his alma mater, UCLA, which are true blue and gold yellow. Because the pattern looks better with three colors than with two, I’m also using UCLA’s vintage color, powder blue.

I have an aural migraine today, so I’m typing with my eyes mostly closed to keep from looking at the screen. I’m using a big hook and double strand so that I can crochet in the dark without looking closely at what I’m doing. I’ll pause and open the curtains now and then to take a picture of what I’m doing.

Edit: I’m going to do a wavy pattern. It’s a standard: 4 sc, 2 hdc, 2 dc, 2 tr, 4 dtr, and back down, or something like that. Do two rows like that in yellow or blue, then do a couole of sc rows in light blue. Or something like that. I’ll make it up as I go.

Edit 17 Oct: I’m done with the bulk of the afghan. The powder blue stripes are too much given that powder blue is just a nod to the old colors. So I’m reducing that dominance by adding a bit of true blue texture to the powder blue stripes that surround the yellow stripes: sc, ch1 across one of the sc powder blue rows. I might do it to all powder blue stripes, but we’ll see.
