I made this halter top using this pattern as a baseline for stitch counts but did many modifications.
I knit from the top down, starting from the neck strap. This let me use as much yarn as possible because I wanted a longer top.
Cast on 7st and knit in garter until desired collar size (24 inches). Join ends into a circle.
Keeping join at center back, pick up stitches for desired width at top front (11 inches, 28 garter ridges). On right side, knit across. On wrong side: k3, purl to last 3, k3.
Increase rows
Row 1: k3, yo, k, yo, knit to last 5, k,yo, k, yo, k3
Row 2: k3, purl to last 3, k3
Repeat until desired width is reached. (20”)
Body rows
Row 1: k3, yo, k, yo, knit to last 5, k, yo, k, yo, k3
Row 2: k3, purl to last 3, k3
Corner: Use short rows in garter stitch to decrease into a point then increase back picking up stitches to make a corner. Aim for 7 stitches in he needle at end of corner.
Bottom hem: K7 back and forth in garter stitch, slipping stitch closest to body after turn and then knitting it together with lady stitch at end of next row. You are adding a garter border along the bottom edge to match the garter at the neck. Complete second corner at end of edge, knitting last row together with side border.
Ties: Cast on 3st and knit icord to 16 inches, attach working end to bottom corner of shirt. Repeat for the second tie.
