Original Pattern Instructions

from Craft Ingenue

  • Chain 226

  • Row 1 (RS): In 2nd ch from hook, work hdc stitches in back loops of chain sts down ch, ch 1, turn (225 hdc)

  • Row 2: Work 1 sc into each lower loop of hdc sts down row, ch 1, turn (225 sc)

  • Row 3: Work 1 hdc in back loop of 1st sc, work 1 hdc into front loop of next sc, continue on in this manner down row (ending with an hdc in a back loop), ch 1, turn (225 hdc)

  • Row 4: Work 1 sc into each lower loop of hdc stitches down row, ch 1, turn (225 sc)

  • Repeat rows 3 and 4 until afghan is preferred width

(122 total rows using 6 (7oz.) skeins with size J hook will give about 38 inches of width)

  • Once you have reached the desired width (ending with lower loop sc row and WS facing you), work a row of sc around entire afghan, placing 3 sc into each corner. Tie off, weave in all ends.

Shell Edging

  1. RS facing, sl st yarn into any corner st
  2. ch 1, 3 dc into same corner sc
  3. skip 2 sc, 1 sc into next st, skip 2 sc, 5 dc into next st
  4. repeat Step 3, placing 8 dc into each corner st until you reach the last corner
  5. place 5 dc into last corner and sl st into ch st
  6. tie off, weave in remaining ends

My Notes
------------------------------------------------------------

Finishing the rows:

When you reach the end of each row, work one more crochet even though it looks like you should be done. The stitch you work into is situated somewhat to the side.
