Original Instructions
Original Pattern used 965 yds of Aran/8wpi/Medium 4 weight yarn & an “I” (5.5mm) hook.
-
ch 100.
-
Row 1: dc in the third chain from the hook. Dc in the next 4 stitches. Dc2tog, dc 2 tog. Dc in the next 4 stitches. Work 2 dc into the next 2 stitches. Dc in the next 4 stitches. Dc2tog, dc2tog. Dc in the next 4 stitches. End with 2 dc in the last chain. Ch 2, turn.
-
Row 2: dc in the first st (your ch 2 and your first dc are worked in the same stitch) and in the next 4 stitches. dc2tog, dc2tog. Dc in the next 4 stitches. Work 2 dc into the next 2 stitches. dc in the next 4 stitches. dc2tog, dc2tog. dc in the next 4 stitches. End with 2 dc in the last stitch. Ch 2, turn.
-
NOTE: you will have 2 dc in the first and last stitch of each row (ch 2 counts as dc)
-
You will continue repeating row two until you have 55 rows (or really, you could keep going as long as you’d like).
The stripe color pattern is as follows:
3 rows white, 3 rows gray, 5 rows white, 2 rows pink, 5 rows gray, 2 rows white, 5 rows gray, 5 rows pink, 3 rows white, 5 rows gray, 2 rows white, 5 rows pink, 5 rows white, 3 rows pink, 2 rows white.
*To make pattern wider*
This pattern is written in multiples of 14+2. So, my pattern is (14 x 7) + 2 = 100. You could do this any way you want. (14 x 10) + 2 + 142, (14 x 15) + 2 = 212. You can really make this blanket as big as you want!
Other Notes
-
Once finished, blankets made from this ripple blanket crochet pattern are approximately 27″ wide and 30″ 1/3 long.
-
This pattern is worked through both loops. You’ll be working into the chain at the end of each row.
-
Gauge is not important for this project.
-
A dc2tog is the same thing as a double crochet decrease.

I used an “H” needle instead of the “I” in the original pattern, so the gauge is smaller. Even though the original pattern says that gauge is “not important”, I want the blanket to be close to the 27x30” size. Two of my rows = 1”, so I am doing 60 rows instead of 55. Also, I added to the original chain 114 and did 156 to get the blanket to the width I wanted. (This pattern is multiples of 14, so I added three more groups to the original)
Also, because I am using four colors instead of three, I had to create my own random pattern to mimic the original. I added a photo of my design.
