7/16/19: I entered the blanket in the 2019 California State Fair and took home a second place ribbon!
9/29/18: It is done. Three-stitch I-cord bind off around the border done with US5 needles. If I were to do it again, though, I would not have started at the end of the piece. EDIT: Some final stats: I used 58 balls of Be Sweet Bambino. The blanket weighs 6.4lbs (2.9kg).
9/24/18: The grafting and the subsequent snipping and tucking of loose ends took some time and I’m overall pleased with the results. Challenges presented themselves in places where three hexes come together. After the grafting was complete, there were holes where the three hexes joined. I did a passable job closing them up. I’m just about halfway done with the the border, now, and I’m very excited to finish this piece. Pretty sure it’s fair-worthy.
8/23/18: I finally started grafting the hexes together, last night. I only have two skeins of BeSweet Bambino in black, however, and I had to find a suitable substitute for the seams. I plan to use the BeSweet Bambino for the border.
5/30/18: This project is taking a hiatus, at the moment, whilst I knit up a couple of scarves for a friend. I really want to finish this blanket.
The break is giving me time to plan the putting together of the piece. I’ve realized that the putting together of the hexes is going to create many loose ends that will need to be woven in at the end. Sigh.
5/17/18: I put two of the hexes that won’t be in the blanket together with kitchener stitch, last night, and was please with the results. I think I’m going to use black yarn to join the hexes but I’m not certain, yet, how I will go about doing the outer edge. Maybe knit a round of black all around and then to my knit bind off.
5/11/18: I finished hex #24 this morning. I will finish the blocking and then get to putting the hexes together.
5/7/18: I started #24 a couple of days ago and also continued the blocking process. I’m getting there!
4/13/18: I finished #20 last night. Sea Green and Tangerine. I’m thinking I should go and caption the photos of the hexes with the colors I used in each. I’m also thinking that I should have planned way better before beginning this process. I think the colors will be so loud and confusing that the like patterns of the various hexes will not be enough to tie the piece together. I think I might change the title of my project.
3/29/18: I have finished 18 hexes, so far. I’ve been doing some other projects, so haven’t been working on this 100%. I’d like to finish by Fair time (late May) but that may be optimistic.
2/13/18: Been awhile since I updated this project. I have, however, continued to post pics of finished hexes, which numbers 13, to date.
12/4/17: Grinding away. I finished nine hexes, so far. I need to start blocking the finished peices, too. EDIT: I just realized that I’m using US7 points for the hex on which I’m currently working. I don’t know how long I’ve been using the US7 for this project as it appears I may have started on a US5. Meh.
11/3/17: As I’ve been knitting the hexes, I have been stretching the fabric every 1/6 of a round. I didn’t do that, however, on the first two hexes I knit (the green and blue ones), so they are much smaller and tighter than the ones I’ve knit, since. I will reknit those two.
10/3/17: I finished two more hexes and have started on the fifth, overall.
9/11/17: I finished a second hex last month and I’ve cast on and started a third. Different color scheme, and I’m going to make each hex using only two colors. Too much work doing 11 colors, as some of the pattern hexes call for.
6/2/17: I cast this on two days ago, using some stash yarn. I expect this project to take time because it isn’t something I’m going to power through in one go. I’m not sure I like the yarn, yet, for this piece. We’ll see.
