Then every other st til 156

Make 3st checks varying the size from 2 rows to 4 rows and a 7 row check once - or whatever you feel -

as long as you want then reduce to 124 st in one row in one color
(i did 47 rows in check after the increase to 156)

then band - change colors every other stitch - make as thick or thin as you like.

use your favorite cast off - stretchy or not depending on your head.

when done either steam iron with a plate inside or wet, stretch over a plate to dry to make a tam or beret shape. or let it be a bulb shape -

add pompom on top or not.
