How I did it -

Co 6 st

Increase every st front and back in the round to 96 st

Knit st 5”

Separate, add 10 st to one end, knit stockinette except added on 10 st in garter and last 5 st in garter
For 4.5” - this will be the “diaper check access”

Cast off those 10 st - go back to knitting in the round k2. P2, all knits are ktbl

Continue in rib to 4”

3 rows contrast color then bind off with stretchy bind off.

Sew down placket if not incorporated while knitting.

Add a pompom made of the colors for the “toe”, make another the same for the “matching” hat.
