The first cake lasted until halfway around the final row in part 6. So I started a new cake, using the outside colour to finish the row, then switched to the inside colour (pink), when starting part 7.
Finished part 7.
Then did rows 58, 59, 60 and 61 of Part 8. Decided to finish after row 61, because I like the shell pattern, and the second cake was close to being finished. The colours of this yarn lend itself to being a baby blanket, so this shall be gifted to someone in the near future. This project would have used 5 cakes of Cassis if completed, and would have been too big to gift as a baby blanket.
I will start a second Harmony CAL, when it’s next run, and complete the whole thing in a plain colour.
NOTE TO SELF: When using self-striping yarn, stick to rows/rounds which don’t increase in size. Alternatively, buy cakes which increase in size as the project does, so the bands of colour don’t shrink in size as the project grows.
UPDATED 20 January 2020
This baby blanket was donated to the Victoria Wildlife and Animal Rescue Support FB group, as a gift towards a fundraiser they were holding on 24/01/2020, to raise money for animals and wildlife injured in the 2019-2020 Australian bushfires.
