This was my first time knitting with “novelty” yarn, it sure makes for a cute fluffy little chick! These knit up VERY quickly and I could probably get at least 3 more out of the skein.
Knit the body as directed but omitted the feet (note: later added feet), used a knit beak instead of felt, and added wings:
Beak:
c/o 2
Row 1: kfb, k1
Row 2-4: knit all sts
Row 6: k2tog, k1
Thread yarn tail through remaining sts and pull tight. Leave a long tail for sewing onto body.
Wings:
NOTE: I chose the increases I used, and to knit these in stockinette, based on the fluffy nature of this yarn. Proceed with caution if using the non-fuzzy variety.
c/o 3 leaving a long tail for seaming.
Row 1: purl
Row 2: kfb, k1, kfb
Row 3: p1, m1p, p4
Row 4: k5, kfb
Row 5: p7
Row 6: k4, k2tog, k1
Row 7: p1, p2tog, p3
Row 8: k2tog, k1, k2tog
Thread yarn through remaining sts and pull tight. Sew to body.
Repeat for other wing, subbing these rows for the ones above:
Row 3: p4, m1p, p1
Row 4: kfb, k5
Row 5: p7
Row 6: k1, k2tog, k4
Row 7: p3, p2tog, p1
Feet:
c/o 4
bind off 3, transfer remaining st to left needle
Repeat above (using backwards loop cast on) twice more
Using 3 remaining sts, knit icord until leg is desired length
Thread yarn through remaining sts and sew to body.
