Notes

I’m creating a giant community tapestry to hang outside and mark the entrance to The Garner Arts Festival next month - and I could use your help!

I am collecting:

  • 4 inch wide rectangles, 2 to 8 feet long in red OR orange OR yellow solid yarn. One color per rectangle please.
  • 8 inch wide rectangles, 2 to 8 feet long in red OR orange OR yellow solid yarn. One color per rectangle please.
  • Braids, i-cords, finger-weaving (aka finger-knitting) 5 to 8 feet long in red, orange, and yellow in solid or variegated yarn. Mixing colors is encouraged.
  • Pom Poms of all sizes in red, orange, and yellow in solid or variegated yarn. Mixing colors is encouraged.

Both knitters and crocheters are welcome to contribute. Use your imagination for the stitch and design – the work will be viewed from all sides, so keep that in mind when you’re picking stitches. Reversible stitches are suggested, like garter, seed/moss, checkerboard, etc. Any size yarn and needle/hook combination are fine. I recommend cheap acrylic yarn for this, it will last longer outside. I’ve been working on size 15 needles with worsted weight recently – they go really quickly!

If you’d like to contribute, please send your pieces in by May 15th, 2015 to be included. Pieces may be mailed to:

If you live in Westchester, NY, feel free to PM me about a local pick-up/drop-off.

The Garner Arts Festival takes place in an old textile mill turned into art studios. It’s a celebration of art and music - and this year, it’s textile themed! There will be contemporary and historical textile exhibitions, weaving/dyeing/knitting demos, a sheep to shawl demo, a spin-in with loop, Etsy vendors and food, drinks, music and more! I’ll be exhibiting another of my yarn installations as well, knit from castoff sweaters into a walkable, touchable, life-size maze: We Should Have Just Let Go.

The Garner Arts Festival is Saturday, May 30th and Sunday, May 31st from 11 AM – 6 PM in Garnerville, NY.

For more information check out their website: Garner Arts Center or mine: SarahDivi.com

I’ll be at the festival both days. Will I get to meet any of you there?
