First attempt at planned pooling to create argyle pattern. Hard to find directions for knitting and finally ran across amazing website that does the calculations for you: www.plannedpooling.com
This is a very bulky yarn and I don’t like a stiff fabric so using size 11 needles. My first attempt is ok but it didn’t create the perfect argyle. Also, as I loosened or tightened my gauge to line up the argyle, sometimes it created holes in the fabric. Not noticeable because the yarn is like chenille and very forgiving.
If you want the argyle to line up more, then you will have to be very diligent about loosening or tightening your gauge with each color as the lengths for the same color varies quite a bit with this yarn. As I am a perfectionist, not having the perfect lengths was very frustrating. I was stressing out getting the right number of stitches to line up the argyle so probably won’t do this again.
Cast on: cast on more than the stitches you need until you are at the end of one color and the first stitch for the next row is starting with a fresh color. Then knit across the number of stitches in the pattern and just take the remaining stitches off the needle (it won’t unravel). So I ended up casting on 55 stitches but only knit 47 of those stitches to get my pattern.
Other notes: Using 1 ball of yarn (103yds) created a square of about 19” per side.
