Notes

From the latim nimbus
Is a type of dense cloud or cloud mass of low altitude with ragged edges that yields rain or snow.

“(…) This form is characterized by its uniform gray tint and ragged edges; it covers the sky in seasons of continued rain, as in easterly storms, and is the proper rain cloud.(…)”

from the The Collaborative International Dictionary of English

Beyond meteorology and science, clouds are also symbols of human emotions, representing their contrasting feelings and aspirations.

This is the next shawl design for “my heart collection” and the first one with a half hexagonal shape I ever done. I’ve tested several stitches for the center panel and only stopped when I was entirely pleased with it, also I changed the edging at the last minute. It wasn’t in the plans, knitting a second shawl with nupps, therefore had to buy a second skein to another raveler (thank you so much silverpurl, loved the stitch markers too). Nupps are cute but ate yarn like crazy. Because I’ve been too scattered with other things, this took me more than expected. Plus, I left it hibernating for a while. One mistake here and there, when I had too many sts on needles, did set me back too. For some reason, lately, I’ve been too lazy to use safety lines (don’t be like me!). This would be a fast knit if I had knitted it without distractions, though.

Well, clouds faded away and I’ve finished it! I’m very happy with the end result. Due its shape (half hexagonal), the shawl stays in place beautifully without falling off shoulders. Plus, I like the aesthetic appeal of a center panel worked in a lace stitch sided by two panels of stockinette stitch and how it flows in the edge from one pattern to another. It’s safe to say that this shawl will have lots of wear next season.

Nupps are worked over 7 sts (see the video here). This method helped me immensely.

Blocked size: approx 105 cm wide by 102 long. Each center line measures 72 cm (see last picture)
I didn’t block it exactly as 3 perfect triangles, instead I added a soft curvature on the top. I believe that in this manner, shawl stays even better in place, plus I like how it looks. This is, obviously, a personal preference only.
(I was so eager of washing the shawl that I forgot to measure it before blocking).
The shawl ended with 459 sts on needles and can be easily customizable by working more or less pattern repeats. This time I didn’t block severely or I would end with a huge shawl, which isn’t my style.

About yarn
Wind this yarn was extremely difficult, the first skein was all tangled and broken in one place. Malabrigo should know better, specially after so many complaints.

01 June - Posted a request at Free pattern testers group and pattern is currently being tested.

Pattern will be released in the beginning of August.
