The cables were inspired by some in Socks a la carte 2, but my gauge was nowhere close so I modified and left out the lace stitches and added a rib that will be on the side of the socks.

Cables are on the 10th round and the slipped stitches are on the even rounds. Slipped stitches are 2nd stitch from edge on each side of the front.

Note 3-9-14: I just discovered the Fish Lips Kiss Heel and will probably try this method but it involves no arch/instep increases so I am nervous about fit.

Also, after the heel shaping, there will be no cable on the back of the sock, just ribbing to match the ratio of knit and purl stitches in the front cables.

Note 3-18-14: The Fish Lips Kiss Heel was a success. My mistake was to use my tiny gussets (3 stitches on each side) in the short row heel. The socks are too long due to this mistake but I like the heel technique and will plan to use it again soon in another pair of socks. I have too much sock yarn sitting idle!
