I like this video for the cast on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GV9UaFgZ6Q0

Cast 16 on each (size 4) needle for each toe. Increasing every other row to 25 (for 5s, 27 for 3s, and 24 for 4s).

Apparently this pattern is impossible to do TAAT, I didn’t realize that before I began. Ended up taking both socks off the circular and working them at the same time, but on DPNs.

Trying the 5 stitch cluster first, then ripped back to try the 3 stitch cluster. I don’t really like the looks of either… may rip back again and try the 4

Going to use the 4 stitch cluster option in the pattern after swatching all three options onto my socks. None of them were the lightning zigzag that I like in some of the projects that other people are making, but I still like it! I’ll make these again with a different brand of yarn one day and hope for some zigzags.

Almost to the part where I want to begin the FLK heel… Just trying to figure out how to decide where to end the last row… The beginning of the round shifts as you knit this pattern, so I have to adjust where the toe and heel lines up to make them symmetrical.

Ended up doing some willy nilly short rows and shuffling stitches around on the needles to try and get them flat and even. I knit the feet two at a time, but on separate sets of dpns, so I was able to line them up together and make sure they were the same length.

After completing the FLK heels, I transfered the socks back on to one long circ to do the legs two at a time, magic loop style. Abandoning the short row shuffle pattern for the legs, as this yarn just doesn’t have the effect that I wanted it to with this pattern. I did swatch every version, but it just didn’t want to cooperate. I’m going to try and make knee highs out of these to use all up the skein and try the short row shuffle with another brand or color way and see what happens!

Saw the “See You Later” pattern while browsing this morning and decided I wanted to do the back braid on these socks all the way up to the knee! Hopefully that will look good with the color changes in this yarn.

I’m loving the leg and the natural pooling that the yarn is doing in plain stockinette… Thinking I just might finish the leg and then go back and re-do the foot part… The short row shuffle is doing nothing for me in this yarn.

Now that they are done, I like them a lot! I’ll leave the foot as is and replace when it wears out with a non shuffle pattern. These are so warm and cozy! Toe up made it so easy to get the increases for the calf right and helped with fit so much! I did some decreases in the ribbing at the top after my calf tapers to make sure that they stay up without elastic. So far so good! :D

The gauge was definitely too loose for this pair. After some wear and washing, it’s more noticeable now. I think the loose gauge contributes to the soles of the feet being uncomfortable in shoes (really bumpy from being stretched out).

I’m cutting off the feet and adding a few inches of 2x2 ribbing to match the cuff. There are some laddering issues on the feet from trying to do the short row shuffle pattern on magic loop (impossible) and then having to switch to dpns. I tried using 3 total dpns to keep track of where I was, since I’ve only made socks on magic loop before. This was a mistake, I will use 4 total dpns for my next pair that uses the short row shuffle pattern.

There is also more felting, fuzzing, and pilling than I’ve seen in other socks. This could be the yarn, but I’m going to have to make another pair with a much tighter gauge before I blame the yarn itself.

Lessons learned:

Tight gauge for all socks, all the time.
Need more than three dpns for in the round.
Legwarmers are fantastic.
