First time doing increases every other row for the toe, for what I thought would be a more rounded toe, but the edges (corners?) look even sharper… I also went up a needle size for the cast on and first round in an effort to prevent the “mouse ears” mentioned here:

Cast on 12, and knit round one with size 3 needles. Increased to 32 on each needle with size 2’s and knit about 20 rows of the foot in pattern before realizing that the socks were going to be ginormous, so I frogged it all. I also didn’t like the toe box, it was too long and narrow.

Casting on 16 this time, with size 4 needles, and will increase with size 2’s to 24 and begin the foot pattern. I decreased 8 stitches on each needle from the last attempt, due to the pattern being a 8 stitch repeat. This time is might be too small….

The socks fit so much better with the smaller number of stitches, but they stretch a lot (due to the pattern being moslty offset ribbing) and the pattern gets lost. So I’ve slowly added 8 stitches to the sole of the socks over several rows, to add another pattern repeat to the leg section. It’s not noticeable on the soles, and it almost acts like a gusset as it increases towards the heel.

Was tired of knitting these already, and when I weighed the skein and realized that I had more than half of it left, I did one more section of ribbing and bound off. Not quite ankle socks, but not the usual length either. I hope they don’t get sucked down into my shoes.

They fit quite well actually, I do love how easy socks are! I was so scared for so long, but I really feel like the FLK heel is what makes the whole process so great for me!

Also, a complete pair of socks using half a skein!?? AWESOME! Now my stash looks even larger…

Gauge was definitely too loose for this pair. After some wear and washing, it’s more noticeable now. I think the loose gauge contributes to the soles of the feet being uncomfortable in shoes (really bumpy from being stretched out), which has been solved by wearing them inside out most of the time, but even then it is still noticeable.

There is also more felting, fuzzing, and pilling than I’ve seen in other socks. This could be the yarn itself, but I’m going to have to make another pair with a much tighter gauge before I blame the yarn itself.
