Notes

11-22-2015

Holding yarn double: will make color changes more subtle, and this alpaca lace is really thin, so it makes a denser fabric, but still light and squishy.

I’m also weighing out the yarn and making the cakes a few colors ahead of time, the plan being to change colors more subtly, by holding one of each color before jumping to the next color completely, for more of an ombre effect. Going from off white to dark gray.

11-25-2015

Starting with the lightest color and already making mods to the pattern.

I HATE increases that leave holes, so instead I’m using kfb for all increases in the garter triangle portion.

Also slipping the first stitch for a neater edge.

Joined in round after 94 rows (fit around my head comfortably then).

Changed m1 sequence: knit to 1st marker, m1r, k1, m1l.

Going SO much faster now that this is in the round! Even with no purls, I found myself putting it down between rows while working flat, so that first part took forever.

July 27, 2016

About to begin the mesh lace part and just realized that I knit the entire body incorrectly. Instead of repeating rows 2 and 3 over and over, I repeated rows 1, 2, and 3. Hmm.

Update: Now that I’ve blocked this, I think this mistake is what makes it curl. This curl also gives the edge a ruffle appearance when worn. Also the shape is shorter and wider proportionally than what it is supposed to be but I find it plenty long as is and I like the width too, so not disappointed with this.

Had to use 2.5 grams of Knit Picks Alpaca Lace in Thomas (black) during the bind off because I ran out of yarn, but it isn’t noticeable at all, so that’s good!

I messed up the mesh part by not paying attention to the yarn overs when doing ssk or k2tog.
Was the yo in front or in back when decreasing? Something to pay attention to next time. I’m hoping that the zig zags in the mesh aren’t too noticeable after blocking, I can’t see them unless I really look, but I haven’t blocked yet. Fingers crossed!

Finally blocked today! WOO

(because I finished binding off the next shawl I made, lol)
