Notes

Trying my 006 glove again but in reverse. I have a notion that this will simplify construction - let’s see!

Finger tips - After eight or so false starts the best result starts with six stitches on a magic loop and 2.00mm hook. A couple of rounds of increases only and change to 2.5mm hook with three more increases near the first finger joint. Benefit - neater tip than bottom up version and no tail to sew in.

Fingers sit well in the crooks and fractionally tighter than the bottom up version with chain bridges. Fingers are slip stitched together but one side of the join needs a bit of remedial sewing to close a tiny hole. Will rethink the method on the second glove. All tails woven as you go so no turning inside out.

Securing the top down thumb seemed a bit more fiddly than the bottom up version. Much counting and stitch marking required as one could easily use a stitch twice. Now it is set in though a lovely neat job and just hoping the lower gusset will finish the job of nicely.

The back of the thumb was joined with sc rather than slip stitch and this may be the way to go with the upper fingers as well. Just gives a bit more stretch.

One glove done and much better than expected. An existing sample cuff added to conserve wool. I never anticipated that a decent glove would result first time and there is barely enough wool for a second.

Left glove finger joins much improved by bridging the fingers with sc and running the tail through the finger stitches at each end of the bridge.

There are a number of benefits working top down and the latest thought is the sizing of the thumb gusset. Too often bottom up prototype thumb gussets drop into the cuff once the bridge is in place. This way I can see this and remedy sooner, rather than later.

The addition of a cuff was a last minute thing but not such a bad idea as a couple more stitches than a regular welt gives a little more leeway clearing the widest part of the hand.

So, on balance - well worth carrying on with this project. May have to look at stitch count, especially if a geometric pattern is to continue up the fingers. At present all fingers not same width.
