Step 1
On the rownd before bobble work the stitch below the bobble so it’ll end up knit on RS despite of the actual patterning (i.e. knit that stitch if working in the round, or purl it on WS row if working flat).
Step 2
On the “bobble” rownd, insert a crochet hook into the “bobble” stitch from Step 1 through the back loop, yarnover and pull through, (*) yarnover, insert the hook into the same stitch, yarnover and pull through, repeat from (*) once more = 5 loops on the hook; slip the “bobble” stitch off the left needle; yarnover and pull through all 5 loops; yarnover and pull through. Move the resulting stitch from the hook onto the right needle.
(On photos, I pull particularly long loops for demonstration purposes, but try to don’t be greedy. Also, the “bobble” stitch was slipped off the left needle while placing the “hook” stitch onto the right needle.)
Most likely your bobbles will be squeezed out to WS -- don’t worry, it’ll be fixed on the next step.
Step 3
On the following rownd, slip the “hook” stitch onto right needle, locate the “bobble” stitch from Step 1 below the bobble and knit it together with the “hook” stitch if you work in the round, or purl them together if you work flat.
Examples: Golden Shells, Berry Hunter.
