Notes

I’m being asked by every Star Wars fan I know to make one of these. Some of the men seem a little jealous of this young guy and his Xmas score! :)

Mods to pattern: I changed the stitch pattern a smidge in the first stranded part to accommodate my red light. Made the rib a row or two longer, and accidentally made the stranded part at the top one row longer.

The hat came out too big. I’m a loose knitter. I will have to adjust more for that if I ever make another one of these.

Good news is, the recipient loved it!

12/25 - Opted not to add protrusions or to felt. It’s a little loose on the kid, but oh well. Pretty pleased with the outcome tho.

12/5 - My mom had a hard time teaching me to do the duplicate stitch, so she ended up doing it herself since it was such a small amount - just the red dot on this one. She also ‘helped’ me with the surgery of the intarsia part. Right now I’m deciding if I want to add the protrusions and if I want to felt since it’s a smidge too big.

12/1 - Knitting of hat (minus protrusions) done. Hat is slightly big and too deep for me nevermind a 9yo boy. I think I’ll felt it slightly. I was unhappy with how messy the shaping came out, so I tore down each section one at a time (silly - I’m sure it would have been faster to reknit the top) and redid each one. I’m still really unhappy with the large square with the black circle. It’s pulling funny because of my lousy intarsia job. I’m probably going to cut the strings in the back and tie them.

11/29 - making this for 9yo nephew. Opted for adult small instead of child size. Decided to alter chart slightly to put in red ‘eye’ as many have done. Decided also on stranding versus duplicate stitch. my first time doing stranding!!! Did intarsia on black dot w/surrounding square in front. May have been a mistake. May have to do some surgery on it at the end. Am planning to make shorter protrusions as others have also done. Am already well into shaping at crown. I’m pleased with the speed of the project. It’s a pretty fun pattern!
