“Leaf” Design Pattern Variations

FIRST HALF OF MAIN BODY
Set up row (between rows 1 & 2): slip marker, p1, m1 purlwise, k1, m1 knitwise, k to last 2 sts, m1 knitwise, k1, m1 purlwise, p1, repeat to end
Row 2: p2, k to center of repeat, m1, k to last 2 sts, p2, repeat to end
Row 3: p2, k to last 2 sts, p2, repeat to end. Repeat for ___ (F) rows

SECOND HALF OF MAIN BODY
Row 1: m1 purlwise, p remaining purl sts, k to center of repeat, m1, k remaining knit sts, p remaining purl sts, repeat to end
Row 2: p the purl sts, k the knit sts, p the purl sts, repeat to end. Repeat for ___ (F) rows
Repeat this pattern until 2/3 x ___ (B) inches from cast on.

Row 3: p1, m1 purlwise, p remaining purl sts, k the knit sts, p remaining purl sts, m1 purlwise, repeat to end
Row 4: Work as row 2
Repeat this pattern until 5/6 x ___ (B) inches from cast on.

Row 5: p1, m1 purlwise, p to last purl st, m1 purlwise, p1, k to (3 or 4) center sts, k2tog, k1 (or k2), ssk, k remaining knit sts, p1, m1 purlwise, p remaining sts, m1 purlwise, repeat to end
Row 6: Work as row 2
Repeat this pattern, alternating row 3 and row 5, until ___ (B) inches from cast on.

LEAF POINTS
Row 1: Bind off purl stitches (which will end with one knit st on the right-hand needle), k2tog, k to last 3 sts, ssk, k1. Turn work.
Row 2: Slip 1 st, purl to end
Row 3: Slip 1 st, k2tog, k to last 3 sts, ssk, k1
Repeat rows 2 & 3 until 7 or 8 sts remain, ending on row 3.
If 8 remaining, p2tog 4 times. If 7 remaining, p2tog twice, p1, p2tog.
K2tog twice.
Cut yarn and pull through last 2 sts, leaving a tail to weave in ends.

Repeat this for the remaining 7 leaves, reattaching the yarn at the beginning of each subsequent purl section. Bind off remaining purl stitches after the last leaf point.
The leaf points may curl up naturally. If you do not like how that looks, block or iron the tips.
