1. This is my 100th project on Ravelry and… I’m learning Italian, - hence the name.

2. Cento has also a nice (ancient but very prominent lately) meaning in Literature: “A poetic technique of assembling a poem from excerpts of other authors’ writings; only disposed in a new form or order”.

So, I’m building knitting my own Cento in Cemento (that’s how they’ve called this wonderful color of my silk. Well, OK, maybe I’ve Latinised it a bit).

My Cento has a very simple composition.

1. It begins AND ends up with an intriguing stitch pattern.
2. It includes my own rhythm for round yoke (yes, I’m estranging myself, acting as if I was (an)other author).
3. It utilizes quite rhyming 7 x double decreases and same amount of increases on both sides (so, first -28 and then +28 sts; kind of self-citation again but it’s not forbidden, is it?),
4. It consists of lots&lots of plain knitting in rounds, what actually means that I’m citing/quoting just about everybody in the knitting world to get something unique.

As you can see, there’s everything needed for Poetry: some composition, citations, half-lines (aka short rows), rhymes and rhythm (aka metre or meter; yeah, meters and meters here)! There is even some Metric Variations (just look at the needle collection involved) and … Caesurae (literally, cuts)!

So, help me Moirae (or Parcae) of my silky Cento!
I just hope it will be nice and wearable!

Суммируя всё вышесказанное: мой “Центон” (увы, на великом и могучем вся игра слов сводится лишь к процентам, да и те - невелики) это - такая забава, типа “сейчас я кое-что так процитирую, что родной автор не (сразу) узнает”. Впрочем, главное тут все-таки игра спиц, что ж, - “стопицот” раундов лицевой глади - какой простор для мысли!

There is a change of general plan, I mean, - there will be NO ring structure (or compositional loopback or - better - NO framing device) (короче, закольцовки, как композиционного приёма, не будет).

The poetry gets bitten by the prose of simplicity!

No-no, I’m not lazy, I’ve knitted the hem in full length (see pic), but it does not look as nice as it does being a collar. Phew! No need to sew many-many silky loops together, hooray!

Instead of all this unnecessary efforts I’m going to turn upside down one nice and well known pattern (known especially for being a splendid bottom-up hem). Yes, you read it right: bottom-up! But am I still going top-down? That is right and exactly why it will be knitted upside down. I’ve already tried it, looks strange but interesting too, jugendstil or art-deco actually (which I secretly admire).

Peri’s Parasol (here on left side) didn’t go well, so I’ve been looking for some other stitch pattern and found one similar but not quite. Well, I’ve knitted 4(!) different (including 2 Japanese) swatches for the lace pattern, and there always were some doubts … until I’ve tried the last one on the smallest needles (2,5 mm). It was really nice! So my definitive decision is taken now. First sleeve is finished & I like it.

So, No More Words! Gone fishing knitting!
