Cast off yesterday. Nothing like leaving Christmas gifts until the last minute… I had to help this one dry during the blocking process by using the blow dryer - just to ensure I could get in wrapped in time to mail it off to my parents.
Notes from this project:
-
It took forever. I had read other people’s comments about this, so it wasn’t unexpected but I found it exceedingly difficult to knit this scarf for long periods of time.
-
The cast off looks great, but it is annoying to work on a project that is knit length wise. I read a lot of people’s comments that they were unhappy with the look of the tubular cast off so I opted for the sewn bind off instead. I would definitely use this again, just not on something so with so many stitches to bind off. In addition, this yarn doesn’t lend itself to the sewn bind off. Too much friction from dragging through the stitches caused some breakage. As a result a felt like I had about a million ends to weave in just due to the cast on.
-
I have yet to fully master the provisional cast on.
In the end I think this scarf looks great, especially after seeing the photos. It feels beautiful and I hope my dad really likes it. Having said all that, I am so happy to have it off the needles!

Progress is slow but pattern is easy. Since I find scarves always take eons to knit, I shouldn’t be surprised.
I didn’t like how the tubular cast-on looked so I’ve opted for a provisional cast on instead and I plan to follow lonestargirl37’s bind off. I honestly can’t say if I cast on the correct number of stitches or not but I believe it makes no difference for this pattern. I don’t use the row by row information and rather visually check where I am.
