I started this yesterday. I decided to do 5-round granny squares because they come out to about 6 inches each and the math seemed easier that way.
I was originally going to do just a brown and blue blanket but decided to add green. I want to do a 3-2-1 color scheme. For every three blue squares I will do two green squares and one brown square. I want to do 72 squares, so 36 will be blue, 24 will be green, and 12 will be brown.

72 squares will be too big for a lapghan. So I’m revising it to 48, to make a 6x8 square blanket instead of an 8x9 square blanket. Sooooo, that means 24 blue squares, 16 green, and 8 brown. I’m not 100% sure about the colors. I would never pick such neutral colors for myself. But since it’s for my dad, I guess that’s a good sign.

I’m on the last row of the blanket. I ended up buying two more skeins each of the three blue colors, because one was not enough to do 8 squares plus I wanted to be sure I’d have enough for the border.

I finished weaving in the ends of all the squared today and did the first round of the border. I thought about doing a granny stitch border, but decided to add rows of single crochet, chain 3 between the rows of double crochet. I want the border to look like the Chocolate Box granny square pattern, still similar to the blanket but a little different.

Finished the border! I did 9 rounds. 6 rows of alternating granny stitch one row then single crochet, chain 3 the next. The last three rounds are border #50 from Around the Corner Crochet Borders. I’m mostly happy with it. I think I would have liked the taupe instead of the Aqua for round 8 of the border, but didn’t feel like redoing it.

All done! I’m happy with it. It looks the seaside.
