Stash diving for this shawl. I hadn’t originally anticipated using these colors together, but when I saw the Rio Olympics logo I thought they would make a great combo. I also think the swirly lines of this pattern echo the swirly shape of the logo. Don’t know if I can finish it in 17 days but will give it a go!

Wound the yarn today, printed out the pattern, and got my project bag ready for this shawl. It will be hard to wait until Friday!

Having second thoughts about the colors. I think the green is too dark and the blue too turquoise, but I am determined not to buy yarn for this project. So I decided to follow Kaffe Fasset’s advice - when in doubt add more colors! In addition to the original colors, I will add red, yellow-green, and a darker blue.

I cast on today and finished sections 1 and 2. I used size 6 needles for section 1 in hopes of having a smaller hump, then switched to size 7 needles for section 2. I saw this in another pattern - Helen Stewart’s Spindrift shawl. The beginning of Section 3 was really confusing until I looked in the forums and realized it was a colorwork row. And about halfway through I understood what was meant by crossing one yarn over the other, but I wasn’t going to go back and redo the row. I figured it will all be bunched up around my neck. No one will notice that I didn’t cross my yarns consistently.

Started section 8 today. I’m a little unsure about the directions because it says to turn the work but I don’t know if that means I should wrap and turn or just turn. After deep and ponderous thought, I decided it wouldn’t make a difference so I will wrap and turn like I did for all the other short rows.

Started Section 10 today. This shawl is zipping right along! I am on vacation so have had quite a bit of time to knit. Things will get busy over the next few days, but barring some catastrophe, I’m pretty confident I can get this finished and blocked by the time the Olympics are over.
I decided not to use the red. I couldn’t work it in and figured it would be better to stick with yellow, green, and blue.

I began the last section today. I realized that I forgot to weigh my Wollmeise before starting, so my totals for yarn usage will be off. Oh well.

Finished binding off today! I’m really happy with how it came out.
The shawl weighs 191 grams, but the yarn totals above are 158, which is a difference of 33 grams. So, on average the 3 new balls of Wollmeise were about 161 grams. I’m glad that I have over 100 grams of each one left, which is enough for another project per color.

Finished weaving in the ends today. Ready to block!

Blocked and photographed today. I love it! Too bad it’s 100 degrees today. I might not get to actually wear it anytime soon, but as soon as the weather cools down this will get lots of use.
