I love this pattern. It’s pretty complicated, but so well written and charted. There are so many great details--from the cable increases at the crown and interlocking cables throughout to the i-cord edging along the brim and ear flaps. The moment I saw it, I wanted to knit it for my boyfriend. And now I want to make one for myself!

Because of the pattern of increases, decreases, and crossing cables, I found myself double-checking my stitches a lot. Of course, when I weaved in the ends, I discovered that I still managed to make a mistake in the crown shaping--I knit a stitch that should have been purled.

I really liked the length of the original ear flaps, but I only followed one repeat of the pattern all the way through once I got to the ear flap charts. I think it’s pretty perfect at this length.

And yes, I made a second one for myself!
