Notes

First attempt at a top-down sweater, using inexpensive yarn from my stash. (But, in its defense, the yarn is soft and lightweight and doesn’t itch. It also machine-launders beautifully.) The designer told me I’d love this method, and, of course, she was right. I am thrilled with the result.

Switched from size 11 to size 13 needles at the last increase row. Used yarn-over increases for a decorative effect, and p2 mock seams under the arms. Size 11 needle for sleeves and neckband.

What I did on purpose that was helpful

Used a crochet provisional cast-on. Quick and easy.

Tried on the sweater several times as I went along, to get the sleeves and overall length correct. (Using waste yarn rather than stitch holders made this easier.)

Steam-blocked the sweater when it was finished (even though it’s acrylic), to even out the stitches and improve the overall appearance.

What I did by accident that I ended up loving

When I picked up the stitches around the neckline, I accidentally twisted them. I saw this as it was occurring, but I was too lazy to fix it. I’m glad I didn’t - I absolutely love the effect.

If I were starting over

I’d eliminate the faux P2 seams under the arms. Not necessary, and not particularly attractive.

I’d make the sleeve and bottom edgings garter stitch rather than reverse stockinette.
