Made a 3-color pattern, medium sized hat.

Note on yarn and needle selection:
These were basically worsted yarns, even though the Ultra Wool is marked DK. The Diana Washted was closest to a DK. I think a smaller yarn and smaller needles is a smart switch here. It’s hard to do the gauge in pattern after blocking without just starting the actual hat, so it was sort of a shrug and go…

I did a plain gauge swatch with 1 color in stockinette, and got about 20 x 26 with the #5 needles.

I chose the needles based on not wanting a loose knit. I wouldn’t have wanted to go larger. As is, it is a nicely draped hat, not stiff, and will slouch if made longer.

The measurements after soaking and blocking came to 10” at the brim, 10” at the width of the hat, and 10.5” tall. Directions were followed for size medium. It bloomed up to be much larger than it was pre-soak.

(I followed instructions in pattern to start decreases after the body measured 5.5”, and added some rounds to fit that guidance before decreasing)

Did some color switching in the crown for variation. Really good instructions in pattern for a jogless pattern join. I always still mess it up a little here and there, but I will master it someday! I should have caught more floats in the crown and knit more tightly there. Lots of hanging yarn due to my color choices (more long stretches).

I’ll be making another one, 4 color this time, in the large size, for a big man with fuzzy curly hair. It’ll be okay if it turns out very large.
