I don’t know why this took me so long to finish. I think I was busy looking at patterns off and on. I used a cone of thread that had a label on the inside saying Sears size 10, 2400 yards. I bought it for a quarter a couple years ago at a yard sale. There was proably about half left, I just gambled that there would be enough. So it was vintage thread, I suppose Sears quit branding thread in the mid 60s.
The orignal pattern called for 563 yards of size 30 and a size 10 hook. I had made it the first time with size 30 and it was before my digital camera, so I didn’t take a picture. So using size 10 thread, I would suppose it would take a couple hundred more yards.
I had made this once before and given it away. I found the pattern in 2000 on a web site called Fast and Fun Crochet. It is no longer up and running. A member of the crochet forum I visit found it on the internet when I started, but that site is no longer up either.
I had made the edge as the pattern suggested, but found it too ruffly. After I had finished, I found an error, so had to frog back to it and when I did the edge again, I made it bit flatter.
What I am thinking about doing is making a bolster and sewing this on and using it in my front bedroom. I love the saying and fell in love with the pattern the minute I saw it in 2000.
