Notes

OK, so this isn’t actually a making project. This afghan was made by my great-aunt. She passed away recently and my parents got it back out of the closet in her memory. Except… then they discovered why it had been put away.

“Do you think you can repair this?” my mother asked. And after looking at it, I think I probably can, even though it’s crochet and I more usually knit. Most of the damage is the ladders coming undone where a chain segment has broken; there’s really only one major break. I’m sure it will always show it’s been repaired, just because I’ll have to use a little new yarn, but I think that would be the case no matter who did it.

It feels somehow fitting that I’ll be repairing it with my great-grandmother’s (on the other side) crochet hooks… Like I’m tied into the whole family in a more literal sense than usual.
