Overall Thoughts (see below for full log)
First sock is done and looks beautiful. I’m not a fan of the six-stitch increases, but I get why they’re there. They’re necessary for the visual effect, they’re just also a pain to work. (They are, however, much easier if you are using extremely pointy needles; I was given a set of Signature DPNs partway through this project and they made ALL the difference.)
The heel is a little too tight; the sock is hard to get on. I suspect with the left sock I’ll try to add a few stitches in that area to loosen it up a bit.

28 June 2014: I can’t believe I’m doing another pair of toe-up socks. I much prefer top-down, and here I am starting on yet another toe-up design. Oy.
7 July 2014: Just started the foot, and I think I’ve already messed up the lace. Note that the stitch count changes from row to row:
Rows 1 and 7: 36 instep stitches
Rows 3 and 9: 34
Rows 5 and 11: 32
I just finished row 3 and have 32 instep stitches. Sigh. So I’m FOUR short of where I should be. Edit: only 2; was looking at the wrong number. How did that happen?? Going to try to subtly increase in row 4 so that I start out row 5 with the right number…
10 July 2014: Corrected stitch counts above to refer to what’s on the needle after the row is finished, as is more conventional, rather than what’s on the needle at the beginning of the row.
(Project on hold briefly for lack of time and interference of more urgent projects.)
08 August 2014: Note self: Total foot length = 10”. Knit foot to 6” before beginning gusset increases. Currently at 5”.
20 August 2014: Through gusset increases. I find the heel sort of confusing, but probably it will make more sense once I get it actually knitted…
04 September 2014: Heel finally done. I don’t know if it really took any longer than a top-down heel flap, but it seemed like it took forever…
19 September 2014: Hrm. From where do I measure the leg length? From the heel turn? Or from the beginning of the second lace panel? It is perhaps more useful to think of it as “to 1 inch short of desired length”, since that’s how much the 10 rows of ribbing will come to. I thiiiiink I have 2” more to go before the ribbing; if I’m measuring right, each repeat is about an inch.
02 October 2014: It’s cuff time!
13 October 2014: First sock done. I stopped a little short on the cuff because I was just done. With. Ribbing. Tried it on, it looks great but the heel is a little tight and was difficult to get on.
Hibernating for a bit while I made Jen’s Office Mitts and various Christmas presents.
02 December 2014: I have the toe and one repeat of the second sock done at this point. I know that I will have some yarn left over and need to use some of that excess for something else. Breaking yarn with plenty left to reattach later.
20-something December 2014: Resuming work after having finished the coin purse. Note when weighing that 9g was used for that project.
12 January 2015: About another half-repeat before beginning the gusset increases, I think. Slowly but surely…
06 Feb 2015: Heel turn complete, ready to start on leg setup. Hibernating again so that I can 100% focus on the +1 Socks of Warmness in hopes of actually finishing them on time.
24 Oct 2015: Picked these up again a little while back and forgot to un-hibernate them. Got a few rows into the leg, had to set them down again, picked them back up and off I went. Except last night I realized I hadn’t been doing the increase/decrease pairs that make it twist, and I had to rip out about 2” to go back and do it right. :( Well. I’ll be really proud of myself when they’re done. ;)
03 April 2016: OK! Waking them back up! And I’ll finish them this time! For real! I love the look of them, and of course I absolutely adore the yarn, and the color is perfect too. I just keep getting distracted…

Weeeeell, that’s a little deflating. I finally, finally got the second sock done! But it won’t fit over my heel. :( I guess my daughter gets this pair.
