Notes

Used a provisional cast-on and grafted the ends. Then the recipient tried it on and discovered it was too small, so I at least attempted to undo the graft, added another repeat, and re-grafted. Not sure I actually hit the actual graft when I cut it, but the end result is still fine. ;)

Definitely recommend adding another 1-2 repeats of the pattern for an older child or adult, though, especially if you knit tightly.

Dad says, “That’s not a hat! You aren’t going out without an actual hat!”

OK, fine.

So I picked up stitches around one edge and used Stephanie Pearl-McPhee’s no-pattern hat recipe to make the earwarmer into an actual hat. I used a height of 6.5” to the crown decreases (overall, including the original earwarmer band) and I think it could have used another inch or so. But it’ll do.
