I used about 1/2 of a ball of peaches and cream to finish these. Mostly I used just scraps that I had lying around.
The changes I made on this are that once I got to the granny stitches I did three HDC and no chain for the first round.
Round 2 - 3 HDC no chain in each space between each granny cluster
Round 3 - 3 HDC 1 chain space between each granny cluster
Round 4 - 4 HDC no chain space between each granny cluster
Round 5 - 4 HDC 1 chain space between each granny cluster
Round 6 - 4 HC no chain between each granny cluster
Brim:
Round 1 - 1 HDC in each chain space all the way around
Rounds 2-4: 2 HDC in one stitch space, 1 HDC in next stitch space, 2 HDC in next stitch space, 1 HDC in next stitch space for the entire rounds
Rounds 5 - 1 single crochet in each stitch
I found that the increases during the hat phase of it were necessary to make the hat expand the way it should be. Seems to me like the directions are written for someone with crochet experience. Fortuanately I have enough to have figure out the pattern.
Even with the changes that I made I found the hat to turn out super cute and only took a couple of hours to finish one. Now I just hope it fits her!
